Apple Venturing into Healthcare Sector

Apple announced plans to open medical clinics to provide healthcare for its employees and their families in Cupertino, on April 2, 2018.

Apple launched a website for clinics, which is expected to operate under the name AC Wellness. Currently, Apple has inaugurated one of its Wellness Centers at its headquarters in Cupertino, which employs doctors, chiropractors, dietitians, and physical therapists.

Reports say that the company will have two clinics in Santa Clara County. AC Wellness has already posted job listings for primary and acute care physicians, nurse practitioners, phlebotomists, and exercise coaches. Apple is urgently looking for clinical program designers as well, to help prevent diseases and promote healthy lifestyles for its employees.

Apple said that it will be using its new clinics to test its health-related products and services. Recently Apple launched a study with Stanford University to identify irregular heart rhythms with the Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor, and is also working on an EKG reader for future Apple Watch models.

The company is one of the latest tech giants to enter into the healthcare industry. In February 2018, Amazon announced its intentions to create a healthcare company in partnership with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase for the three companies’ U.S.-based employees and their families.
